Target Audience: Psychologists, Social Workers, MFTs, Counselors
Through a combination of lectures, videotape, observation of live interviews, and exercises, participants will learn to identify the basic stages and steps of Emotionally Focused Therapy and to help couples, individuals, and families recognize and de-escalate problematic cycles of interaction. Participants will also learn to help couples create or restore the emotional bond between them once the negative cycle, and the attachment needs that drive it, have been understood.

TRAINERS:
Trainer: ELANA KATZ, LCSW, LMFT
Elana Katz is a trainer and supervisor in EFT and a senior faculty member at the Ackerman Institute for the Family. She is a co-director of equity, diversity and inclusion at NYCEFT where she served on the executive board for more than ten years. Elana presents nationally and internationally, and she also applies her knowledge of attachment and relationships to help collaborative law clients, and their professional teams, intercept the recurring patterns that shape high conflict divorce. Her private practice is in New York.
Dr. Guillory is an Associate Professor at the University of California, Berkeley in the Clinical Science Program, Psychology Department. He has taught courses on Emotionally Focused Therapies at U.C. Berkeley. He is certified trainer, supervisor, and therapist of Emotionally Focused Therapy. He is the author of “Emotionally Focused Therapy with African American Couples: Love Heals,” Routledge, August 2021. He has created several clinical online training video tapes that amplify integrating attachment & culture (www.paultguilloryphd.com). Dr. Guillory has presented at several recent workshops including “Emotionally Focused Therapy in a time of Racial Reckoning” Couple & Family Institute of New England, Spring Symposium, “Race and Couples Therapy Conference,” Eikenberg Academy for Social Justice, July 2021, and “Deep Roots: Attachment & Culture, LA Center of EFT, November 2021, Attachment & Culture: Deep Roots, NCCEFT Annual 2-day Workshop, April 8 & 9, 2022, “Deep Roots: Attachment & Culture, APA 2022 workshop, Annual Convention. He is the former chairperson of the Northern California Community of Emotionally Focused Therapy. Dr. Guillory was the psychological consultant to the Oakland Raiders professional football team and the National Football League for 14 years. He has also been a consultant to the Sacramento Kings professional basketball team, and is a selected provider for the National Basketball Players Association. He served as Director of the Center for Family Counseling in Oakland California for ten years. He is a life-time member of the Association of Black Psychologist. And he is a life-time member of the USA Masters Track & Field Association. He has been in private practice in Oakland California for over 30 years.

We provide a limited number of seats for discounts on students, clinicians who work in agencies providing care to underserved or marginalized populations, active or former military mental health professionals, and VA employees.
If you are registered as a student, agency clinician, military, or VA employee, you will need to verify your status before the event to gain your discounted entrance. Students must be full-time and provide an official course schedule for verification.
Note: Discounted registration is only provided to those within the Greater New York area.

Satisfactory Completion:
Participants must have paid registration fees, signed in, attended the entire seminar, and signed out to receive a certificate. Failure to sign in or out will result in forfeiture of credit for the entire course. No exceptions will be made. Partial credit is not available.

Cancellation Policy: If canceled 30 days before the start of the event, the fee will be refunded minus $100 administrative fee. After that date, the fee is non-refundable. You can attend the next available EFT Externship through NYCEFT after paying $75 transfer fee.
If you miss a day or the entire training due to an emergency or unavoidable conflict, you may make up the missed portion within one year from the original training date. After that time, the credit will no longer be available.
