We will be viewing Shaping Secure Connection; Stage 1: De-Escalation

In this couple therapy case, the wife is feeling depressed, disconnected, and alone in a new country. Although both the husband and wife are very loving toward each other, the husband feels confused about how to help to his wife with her depression and anger. With classic EFT interventions, Sue Johnson helps this couple to have a corrective, emotionally healing experience.

This video presentation helps viewers to learn Steps 2 and 3 of EFT. In Step 2, the negative cycle and its consequences are delineated. In Step 3, the underlying feelings that prime the steps of the cycle are deepened and connected to the cycle. Enactments are used brilliantly to help both the pursuer and the withdrawer to feel understood by their partners and to restructure the bond between them. As a result of the enactments, this couple experiences the powerful effects of expressing the vulnerable parts of themselves to each other.
